Two men plead guilty to smuggling firearms into Mexico
EL PASO, Texas - Homeland Security Investigations looked into reports that Edwin Alejandro Rodriguez and Martin Najera were buying firearms and exporting them to Mexico.
HSI and ATF agents say they identified more than 30 firearms purchased by Rodriguez and Najera and taken into Mexico, according to court documents.
Last week both men pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to smuggle goods from the U.S. The U. S. citizens living in Mexico will find out their sentence in December. They face up to five years in prison.
The investigation is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods or (PSN) program. Different law enforcement agencies work together to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
