Deadly Storm Systems Threatening More States

Thousands of Californians are starting the first week of 2023 without power and others are under evacuation orders, after a deadly storm hammered the state with historic rain, heavy snow and life-threatening flooding that shut down major highways.

A deadly west coast storm system is now moving toward the east, with several other states bracing for extreme weather this week.

The National Weather Service says heavy snow is expected to stretch through the mountain west from the Sierra Nevada to the Rockies by today where it could dump up to 2 feet of snow in some parts.

In northern California at least two people have died and several others had to be rescued as flooding shut down major highways.

In Sacramento County, the Office of Emergency Services issued an evacuation warning Sunday to residents at risk due to flooding.

In southern California firefighters had to use a boat to rescue five people trapped in their cars.
