Deadly crash at U.S. 54 north at Fred Wilson; all lanes closed at Fred Wilson

UPDATE (8:03 p.m.): El Paso police say a 32-year-old passenger of a truck was hit by a car when he exited to pick up a tarp that had partially fallen out of the bed of the truck. The truck came to a stop on the right lane of U.S. 54 before the man got out of the truck. As he tried to pick up the tarp, police say another car swerved left to avoid the parked truck but hit the pedestrian and pick-up's open door.

No names were provided about the identities of drivers, passengers, or the victims. Police say bystanders attempted to help the victim, but he died at the scene.

UPDATE: All lanes of U.S. 54 northbound are closed at Fred Wilson. Police advise motorists to take alternate routes.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A deadly crash has been reported at U.S. 54 northbound at Fred Wilson. The report came out just before 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Traffic on U.S. 54 is backed up to Pershing Drive.

An ABC-7 reporter on the scene says there were about five police cars at the scene. There was one black Cadillac with a possible body underneath covered with a white tarp.
