Two dog attacks in two days in El Paso; woman seriously injured, child treated at scene
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Two people were injured in two separate dog attacks in as many days, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The first attack happened Monday around 4:15 p.m. at the 200 block of Oil Mill in Tornillo. Officials say a pit bull and bulldog attacked an elderly female, biting her several times on her face, legs and arms.
She was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The dog's owners were issued citations by the animal welfare unit. The dogs were impounded to be euthanized.
The second attack happened Tuesday just before 6 p.m. on the 100 block of Lake Champlain. This attack involved a feral dog that bit an 11-year-old child. The dog was described as a pit bull/german shepherd mix.
According to officials, the child was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The dog was not found and remained on the loose. A search for the animal is ongoing.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says the community should know that not having your dog on a leash or contained in the yard is a class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 per incident.
If the canine is not secured or contained and makes an unprovoked attack against a person, the owner could be charged with a third-degree felony if the dog causes serious bodily injury, and up to a second-degree felony if the dog causes the death of the person.
