MacArthur K-8 School employee arrested for murder

UPDATE: ABC-7 obtained court documents that reveal the murder occurred in Aug. 2021.

On Aug. 8, 2021, El Paso Police were called out to a neighborhood in East El Paso.

Officers found an unresponsive man in the driveway of a home. The man was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

Police eventually located Mendoza, who had blood on his face. Mendoza also told police he had been in a fight with a friend.

Documents reveal that the argument began at Red Sands after three different men had a few beers.

The complainant reportedly began fighting with Mendoza, but the man was intoxicated and getting aggressive.

Due to his behavior, Mendoza left the area.

Shortly after Mendoza and another man headed to the defendant's home, but they noticed the complainant walking toward his home.

Mendoza and the complainant started fighting. The defendant eventually stopped fighting and went inside his home, leaving the complainant on the driveway.

Update: El Paso Independent School District has confirmed to ABC-7 that Mendoza is a teacher at MacArthur.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit has arrested 25-year-old Matthew Jacob Mendoza on murder charges Thursday.

Mendoza is listed as an employee on Gen. Douglas MacArthur K-8 School webpage.

Officials say that deputies arrived at the school, spoke to the front office, and asked to speak with Mendoza outside.

Officials say Mendoza got to the front office, then stepped outside with deputies. He was arrested outside.

Mendoza was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond on murder charges.
