Thunderstorms near the Field of Dreams, postpone Mayfield graduation

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) - The Las Cruces Public Schools administration are advising parents, students, and staff commencement ceremonies scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. has been postponed until Sunday at 9 a.m.

“We understand this is a tremendous inconvenience for graduates and families, but the safety of everyone at the stadium is of paramount importance,” said Deputy Superintendent of Operations for LCPS, Gabe Jaquez.

The District along with National Weather Service in Santa Teresa have been monitoring storm development over the last few days.

The storms were expected to pass through without affecting the planned graduation ceremony, but the latest models show they are developing quickly in the area of the Field of Dreams, where the ceremony were scheduled to be held.
