Murder suspect claims he shot teen in self-defense

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- According to court documents newly obtained by ABC-7, 20-year-old Jose Manuel Villa is arguing he shot and killed a teenager in self-defense.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office say Villa was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a murder charge under a $1,000,000 bond. Officials with the Sheriff's office say Villa murdered 19-yera-old Adan Tiscarreno.

Court documents state on May 19, Villa and his brother-in-law were checking out at a gas station at 13257 FitzPatrick Way in Sparks when they saw Tiscarreno shoplift.

The pair told investigators they decided to follow Tiscarreno and his friend, who drove out of the gas station parking lot together. They claimed they believed Tiscarreno and his friend were driving recklessly and would put people in danger.

Investigators say Villa and his brother-in-law followed them to a desert area near 13100 block of Mark Twain Avenue. Villa told investigators he saw Tiscarreno get out of his friend's car and run towards him. He says he shot Tiscarreno in the back.

Tiscarreno got back into his friend's car and told him he'd been shot. The friend drove Tiscarreno to his house where his mother called 911. First responders arrived and took Tiscarreno to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
