Another criminal captured under the ”Se Busca Información” campaign Mexico-U.S. joint effort

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Foreign Operations Branch were informed on March 6 that Leonel Salas-Favela, also known as ''El Sobrino'' was captured in Poanas, Durango, Mexico.

He was the third 'criminal target' in the ''Se Busca Información'' campaign, a binational cooperation between Mexico and the United States. Salas-Favela has an outstanding warrant for aggravated kidnapping.

Several Mexican agencies participated in the capture of "El Sobrino". Salas is being held by Mexican authorities pending criminal prosecution.

The ''Se Busca Información'' tip line has received information on Salas-Favela including 9 other individuals who are reportedly associated with transnational criminal organizations and wanted for crimes ranging from human smuggling, kidnapping, narcotics trafficking and murder.

The USBP campaign encourages the public on both sides of the border to anonymously report information about wanted criminals. The 10 most wanted individuals' pictures are placed on posters, flyers and billboards. These are displayed on both sides of the border along city streets and convenience stores. They are also found at border patrol stations and ports of entry into the U. S.

“This bilateral initiative between the United States and Mexico is in the best interest of both countries to pursue a safer and more secure border,” said U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Interim Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar. “The ‘Se Busca Información’ is a positive example of how United States and Mexican law enforcement can cooperate to bring dangerous criminals to justice.”

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these individuals can contact law enforcement via 1-800-635-2509, or 915-314-8194, where voice messages, texts, or messaging platform applications such as ‘WhatsApp’ can be used.
