Trump administration removes protections for churches, schools against immigration enforcement
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)--President Trump's administration announced Tuesday that churches and schools will no longer have protections against immigration law enforcement.
A rule prohibiting officers from conducting arrests in sensitive areas was established by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2011. Similar guidelines were established by the Biden administration. Advocates for immigrants have expressed concerns about stripping the regulation.
'Its going to cause I think a lot of fear, a lot of insecurity. Ultimately, it's going to cause people to, probably step away from, from some of those places because they're no longer safe," said Melissa Lopez, Executive Director of Estrella Del Paso.
