El Paso Locomotive snag a 2-0 win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On a night Lucho Solignac won't soon forget El Paso Locomotive FC (West-6, 3-3-1, 10 points) move to four games in a row unbeaten thanks to a nifty 2-0 win over Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

“It wasn’t pretty but good teams win games like this,” Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut said. “Our group is grinding and it’s not a coincidence that we are getting clean sheets now. The team is united and there is strong belief in how we defend. I give big credit to our group.”

A goal for Lucho Solignac on Saturday would see him become the all-time leading goal scorer for the club.

Within minutes he had a chance that went begging and he wasn't the only Loco who couldn't find the final touch in the first half. But in the 39th minute, Petar Petrovic broke the deadlock. Denys Kostyshyn sent a ball from El Paso's own half directly to Petrovic who slotted it past Jahmali Waite.

There wasn't much Waite could have done to stop Petrovic's goal but his clear misjudgment of a Marc Navarro deep ball served up a goal on the prettiest of platters for Lucho Solignac in the 69th minute.

Solignac has now scored in three consecutive USL Championship games. His goal Saturday sees him become Locomotive’s all-time leading goal scorer with 30 goals.

“Strikers play football for this, not going to lie,” Solignac said with a chuckle. “But this is a team sport and my teammates helped me become the all-time leading goal scorer, so I want to thank them. One takes advantage of errors and [the Pittsburgh error] worked out in favor, so I’m happy.”

Locos now get a week off before they play on Saturday, April 29th at San Diego Loyal SC. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. MT. at Torero Stadium
