El Paso native Ricardo Pepi scores both goals in USMNT’s soccer win 2-0 over Jamaica
AUSTIN, Texas - The hottest soccer player in North America traces his roots to El Paso.
In his just his second international appearance, Ricardo Pepi scored both of the United States Men's National Team's goals Wednesday night to power the Americans to a 2-0 win over Jamaica in World Cup Qualifying match.
Pepi's two goals come on the heels of his magical USMNT debut in September, when he scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute to defeat Honduras.
With his sensational start, Pepi is the youngest player in the history of United States soccer to score in back-to-back Wordl Cup Qualifiers.
Tied with Jamaica 0-0 at halftime, the Americans were in search of an offensive sparkplug that came in the 18-year-old Pepi.
In the 49th minute, Pepi got his head on a Sergino Dest cross to open the scoring at 1-0.
And while fans were still reveling in their young superstar's first goal, Pepi struck again in the 62nd minute off a cross from Brendan Aaronson.
Pepi grew up in San Elizario, just outside of El Paso, before moving to Dallas to play for the FC Dallas Academy at age 13.
Presently, Pepi's 13 goals with FC Dallas are the most by an American-born player in MLS.
Pepi is the first American to score three goals in his first two international matches since 2004.
