Governor Abbott announces sending immigrants to Washington, D.C. to deter illegal immigration; immigrants must volunteer to go

Weslaco, TX -- Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced directives to deter the smuggling of migrants across the US / Mexico border and he says the state will assist local officials by chartering buses to ship immigrants to Washington, D.C.

According to a news release from Abbott, "To board a bus or flight, a migrant must volunteer to be transported and show documentation from DHS."

Abbott said his actions are in response to President Biden's decision to end Title 42 expulsions.

Another initiative involves enhanced safety inspections of vehicles as they cross international ports of entry in Texas.

The Governor acknowledged this could dramatically slow traffic at the border.

Gov. Abbott signed the directives at a news conference in Weslaco, Tx. Abbott said more measures to deter immigration would be announced next week.
