Man charged with murder in weekend shooting in northeast El Paso
EL PASO, Texas -- A 19-year-old Fort Bliss Soldier has been arrested in connection to an early-morning shooting Sunday at the 8500 block of Dyer.
Pvt. Craig Trevion Gooding, of Fort Bliss, is charged with the murder of 29-year-old Staff Sgt. Jewllian Maurer, also of Fort Bliss.
Fort Bliss officials said Pvt. Gooding is a motor transport operator assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
Maurer was described as an armor observer, controller trainer who was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 362nd Regiment, 5th Armoured Bridged, First Army Division West.
The US Army Criminal Investigations Division worked with Crimes Against Person detectives in the El Paso Police department.
Gooding was taken into custody on Tuesday. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention facility.
The shooting happened at a shopping center where a large group had gathered. Three others were injured in the incident.
