Tornillo man arrested as driver in deadly hit & run case
UPDATE, Sept. 1: TORNILLO, Texas – El Paso County Sheriff's deputies said Wednesday they had arrested and jailed a man on $10,000 bond in a deadly Tornillo hit and run case.
Javier Ochoa of Tornillo was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a charge of accident involving death along with several other outstanding warrants, officials said.
Investigators allege Ochoa was the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian, 27-year-old Arturo Ramirez, last Sunday in the 200 block of Steel Mill in Tornillo.
Deputies said they located the vehicle, which fled the scene, prior to arresting Ojeda.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 30: TORNILLO, Texas – El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies were searching Monday for the driver of car that struck and killed a man in Tornillo over the weekend.
The deadly hit and run occurred about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Steel Mill and Highland in Tornillo.
Authorities identified the man killed as 27-year-old Arturo Ramirez and said the vehicle that struck him fled the scene and left him lying in the roadway. Deputies said Ramirez showed no signs of life when they discovered him.
