Honduran woman hit by car, killed on Loop 375 in Lower Valley

UPDATE: El Paso police said Friday that a Honduran woman who was struck by a car along Loop 375 in the Lower Valleyhas died from her injuries at the hospital.

Authorities identified the victim as 23-year-old Marisol Andino of Pespire, Honduras.

Investigators said Andino and her 24-year old sister were trying to cross Loop 375 between Fonesca and Midway late Thursday night when a vehicle was unable to stop and struck her.

Andino's sister was not hurt; the driver of the car was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Police said Andino was El Paso's 47th traffic death of the year as compared to 52 at this time last year.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- A pedestrian was struck by a car and critically injured Thursday night along Loop 375 westbound near Padres.

Authorities said the incident at mile marker 55 happened just after 10 p.m.

The victim, believed to be a woman in her 40s, was rushed to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition.

Loop 375 westbound was closed at Midway for much of the overnight hours as investigators examined the scene; no further details were provided.
