ABC-7 First Alert: High winds move into the Borderland
- WIND ADVISORY until 9 p.m. Sunday for ABC-7 viewing area
- BLOWING DUST ADVISORY until 8 p.m. for ABC-7 viewing area
El Paso, Texas- Strong winds will develop late morning and continue through the day. The potential for some damaging wind gusts will exist across portions of the New Mexico Bootheel and Sacramento mountains this afternoon with damaging gusts possible east of the Organ and Franklin mountains this evening and tonight. Areas of blowing dust will also develop with reduced visibilities possible.
The first part of the morning will see west winds around 15-25 MPH. By noon those sustained wind speeds will strengthen to around 25-35 MPH. Our main threat will be damaging wind gusts, specifically for areas on the east slopes of the area mountains are forecast for 45-50 MPH. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of seeing gusts even hit 55 MPH for areas near the Bootheel of New Mexico and Culberson county.
