Fast-moving Southern California wildfire torches hillside homes, forcing evacuations

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A fast-moving wildfire that swept into a Southern California hillside community this week destroyed five homes and damaged three others. Assessment of losses was completed Tuesday, a day after the blaze erupted in a neighborhood in San Bernardino, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury but there were no reports of injuries to residents. The fire scorched 54 acres and containment is holding Tuesday at 75%. In Northern California, firefighters are battling the reawakened Park Fire. The massive blaze exploded Monday after several days of slumber. The Park Fire has already scorched nearly 647 square miles, destroyed 640 structures and damaged 52.
