Estela Casas: Summer Is Time For Family To Be Together
by ABC-7 Primetime Anchor Estela Casas
The 2008-2009 school year is over and what a year it’s been! My daughter just wrapped up a six-month internship at the state capitol. She worked in San Antonio state Rep. Joaquin Castro’s office reviewing bills and learning the inner workings of the legislature. She was in the thick of things when lawmakers discussed the voter ID bill, the higher education ten percent rule and other important legislation that affects all Texans. I’ll be glad to have her home for summer.
My middle son Marcos also had a great year. He earned several district medals in track, had a successful football season and a great academic year.
My youngest son graduated from pre-kindergarten. He’ll join the big kids next year as a kindergartener.
I’m looking forward to sleeping in a little later, cooking their favorite meals and bonding as we jump on the trampoline or toss a steak on the grill. Summer is a time to look back at the goals that were accomplished during the year and set new goals for the fall. My husband and I will just take one day at a time and enjoy having the family together – at least for a couple of months.
