Early Voting In Las Cruces School Bond Election Begins Friday

Absentee and in-person voting for the Las Cruces Public Schools’ $65 million schoolbond election will begin on Friday, Jan. 8, and continue through Jan. 29.

A two mill levy election also is on the ballot. Election day is Feb. 2.

In-person voting will take place at the Doña Ana County Government Center, 845 W. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces. Voters must be at least 18 years old and residents of the school district. January 5 was the last day to register to be eligible to vote in the election. Contact the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office at 575-647-7428 to receive an absentee ballot.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.on election day at 28 consolidated precincts throughout the school district. Visit the LCPS Web site, www.lcps.k12.nm.us,for a complete list of voting locations.

Passing the bond and mill levy will not raise the local property tax rate, according to an LCPS news release. The LCPS portion will remain at $9.807 per $1,000 of taxable property value. (Taxable value is one third of the assessed value of the property.)

Funds generated by the bond issue and mil levy will benefit all LCPS schools. Those funds will improve student and staff safety, provide more and better technology, fund major construction and renovation projects (including $10 million for Las Cruces High School), provide new and improved athletic facilities, construct new schools and help the school district plan for long-range growth.
