Dispose Of Your Old Tires Properly
Tire dumping is a common problem in the Borderland, but there’s a much better solution – one that prevents this eyesore.
The City of El Paso encourages people to bring old tires to one of their citizen collection centers for proper disposal.
Thomas Burrell, who works at the Northeast collection center on Hondo Pass, says this about the tires. “You could see a lot of them in the alleys – but mostly out in the desert. If there’s nobody out there, who knows what they’re doing.”
And with summer following spring, they’re not just an eyesore. Abandoned tires could mean breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
If you are a homeowner and pay a waste collection fee to the City of El Paso, you can bring old tires to the city’s collection centers for free if you show a current water bill that matches your home address, as well as a photo ID.
“We have a contract with a private company that takes care of them – once we receive ’em here they’ll give ’em to the contractor and then he disposes of them,” says Burrell.
Residents can bring their old, unwanted tires to one of the City of El Paso’s five citizen collection stations for disposal Tuesday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The five citizen collection stations are listed below:
Northeast: 4501 Hondo Pass
Central: 2492 Harrison
Westside: 121 Atlantic
Southside: 4200 Delta
Eastside: 9000 Escobar
Residents who are ineligible for this free service can bring their tires to the Clint Landfill at 2300 Darrington Road, which is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tire disposal fees at the Clint Landfill are listed below:
$2.00 for each 16 inch diameter or less
$3.00 for each 17 to 18 inch diameter tire
$6.00 for each 19 to 25 inch diameter tire
$10.00 for each tire over 25 inches in diameter
