EPISD Trustee Resigns
El Paso Independent School District Board Vice-President Carlos E. Flores announced today that he is resigning from the Board of Trustees effective Wednesday, April 28 to be closer to his family in Laredo.
“My wife and I have decided to move back home to be closer to our parents and give our children the opportunity to grow up with our extended family,” Flores, who represents District 3, said in a news release.
Flores made the announcement today during a regularly scheduled board meeting.
“On behalf of the EPISD Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Mr. Flores for his service to the students of District 3 as well as all of the students in EPISD,” Board President Patricia L. Hughes said. “He’s an excellent school board member and we will miss his thoughtful contributions to our Board meetings.”
Flores was named a 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award winner by Texas A&M International University in Laredo. He is one of 20 alumni receiving this honor, which is part of the university’s 40th anniversary celebration.
“It is an honor to be recognized for my work as a lawyer, community activist and trustee of the EPISD,” Flores said. “My education is my greatest gift, and I’m grateful to TAMIU for preparing me for the challenges that I have faced in my professional and political career.”
Flores also is a 2005 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law.
