City Rep. Robinson Provides Few Answers Regarding Driver’s License Citation
Northeast City rep. Carl Robinson was pulled over on Mesa street on Monday and was issued two tickets.
Robinson admitted to ABC-7 that a mistake was made and he would take care of the situations that led to the tickets.
Robinson got a ticket for not having a driver’s license and a ticket for an expired registration sticker.
Police say he did have proof of insurance either. Robinson wouldn’t tell ABC-7 why he didn’t present a driver’s license to the officer when he was pulled over.
The I-Team confirmed he does not have a Texas license, but we uncovered a 2008 document that shows Robinson had a driver’s license from Washington state.
ABC-7 wanted to know if a driver can purchase vehicle insurance without presenting a license.
Agent Candy Rincon, at Fred Loya Insurance said it is possible.
She explained to insure a vehicle, all you need is the title or registration and a photo identification. “We do require a Texas driver’s license, however there are some instances where we can insure the vehicle, but we do require a license within 30 days.”
The same goes for registering a vehicle at the El Paso County tax office.
All you need is a title, insurance and a current identification.
Though Robinson doesn’t have a Texas driver’s license, DPS records show he does have a current Texas identification card.
Robinson admitted failing to get a Texas driver’s license, saying ” …was an oversight on my part, a mistake that I made.”
Robinson wouldn’t answer if he has a valid driver’s license or if he owns a car.
He did tell ABC-7 he has a friend who drives him around and said he’ll explain why he doesn’t have a Texas license at an appropriate time but wouldn’t say when that time would be.
Robinson also said none of this will keep him from doing his job as the Northeast city representative.
