Parent Upset Over Rules For Using Soccer Fields
A city of El Paso parks and reaction department ordinance has one soccer dad up in arms.
He says he and his daughters soccer team were kicked of a field he feels he was entitled to use.
Jorge Juarez says his daughter’s soccer team called the Angels Soccer Academy was practicing at the Westside Sports Complex in West El Paso when they were asked to leave.
City park officials say the Westside Sports Complex is one of a few parks around town that does not allow for practices.
Paula Powell from the department of Parks and Recreation says,”there are no permits for practices on these fields.”
According to her, the fields at the Westside Sports Complex are only for league-sanctioned games, nothing else. Although Juarez thinks it’s unfair, park officials say they have those restrictions to prevent excessive wear and tear damage on the fields.
“It’s just wrong. We already pay taxes, and my daughter belongs to the time, we shouldn’t be restricted to where we can practice,” Juarez said.
Juarez says he is mainly upset because, according to him, El paso doesn’t offer many other options for soccer fields.
He says it’s tough finding a place that isn’t already taken around town for his daughters team to practice.
