Agent Shooting
There are still many questions as to what happens now after a border patrol agent shot and killed a mexican teenager. Many investigations are underway by several different agencies. Not many details are known at this time.
We do know…that the Chihuahua State police are handling the investigation across the border. Several witnesses are being interviewed at this time.
While…the FBI is looking into the assault allegations by Mexican teenager against the border patrol agent.
The border patrol is conducting their own use of force investigation through Customs and Border Protection internal affairs.
FBI officials in El Paso say the border patrol agent fired his gun after being attacked by a group of people throwing rocks at him. According to investigators the group was trying to cross into the U.S. illegally. Because of where the shooting took place…just a few yards from Mexico. This case has garnered international attention.
Preliminary reports show the border patrol agent was on the U.S.side when he shot at the teen who was killed on Mexican soil. The area is known as Puente Negro, a popular area for smugglers.
According to Rcardo Alday, spokesman for the Mexican embassy in Washington D.C., the Mexican government has requested a full and transparent investigation. Alday said Mexican authorities are in constant communication with american investigators. But despite the circumstances, mexican government officials say they feel the border patrol agent’s actions were uncalled for, “Mexico believes that the use of lethal force in this case was disproportionate by the threat presented by a youngster or a group of youngsters against an armed Border Patrol Agent,” said Alday. Consulate officials confirm that a representative from their office here in El Paso accompanied two men who were detained in connection with the shooting. They are both being processed for illegal entry into the U.S.and will be witnesses for the investigation.
