Man Run Over In Apparent Fit Of Road Rage

El Paso police continue their investigation after a person reportedly ran over another, then took off in the 1400 block of Vista Del Sol.

Authorities are calling the incident a case of road rage.

Just after 1 a.m. police said a street altercation escalated. The incident sent one person to a local hospital in critical condition.

“He was in pain. I don’t know if the guy was unconscious, but I heard him moaning,” said Cynthia Vasquez who told ABC-7 the incident happened right in front of her house.

“What woke me up was the sound of a Honda CR-X turning it’s engine, like really really loud, so I looked out my window and there was a guy on the floor and a bunch of people around him.” Vasquez explained it was a horrific sight.

Police investigators said a street altercation between people in a Honda and and SUV got heated. That’s when witnesses said a passenger from the Honda got out, stood in front of the moving SUV, and was run over.

“Obviously he was in pain but from what I know he legs got really messed up,” said Vasquez.

She said a witness told her the driver of the SUV never stopped. “We asked him if the guy was going to be okay and he said he got run over and the guy took off,” she explained.

An apparent relative of the victim reportedly tried to find the driver. “He took off after the car, but he couldn’t find it,” said Vasquez.

Police said they do have a person in custody regarding the incident.

“That’s ugly. Who would do that? I was very upset yesterday, I was angry this guy just took off,” Vasquez said.

It’s not clear if the person in custody has been or will be charged.

Police said if you find yourself in a similar situation don’t provoke the other person. They said you those on the receiving end of a road rage incident should call 911, also go to a populated area like a convenience store or a Walmart.
