Murders In El Paso Down 80 Percent
Overall crime in El Paso has decreased 1 percent compared to this time last year, according to El Paso Police.
The crime categories with the largest decreases across the city are murders, which are down 80 percent (10 in 2009 compared to two in 2010) compared to this time last year, burglary of vehicles are down 23 percent (2,598 in 2009, compared to 2,009 in 2010) and vehicle thefts are down 14 percent (1,453 in 2009, compared to 1,247 in 2010). Robbery is up 7 percent, assaults are up 5 percent, burglary down 7 percent, larceny down 4 percent, vehicle thefts down 14 percent, and burglary of vehicle down 23 percent.
By police region, the Central area has a decrease in overall crime by 5 percent, Northeast area is down 3 percent, Mission Valley area has no change 0 percent, Pebble Hills area is up 3 percent, and Westside area is down 4 percent.
