Update: Police ID Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash Tuesday

The El Paso Police Dept. has identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday.

Javier Thomas, 21, of the 8400 block of Mt. Tibet, was riding his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle south on Zaragoza approaching the intersection of Saul Kleinfeld.

Police say that Thomas accelerated his motorcycle as the light turned yellow, passed another south bound vehicle that was stopping for the traffic light on Zaragoza. Thomas continued and entered the intersection with Saul Kleinfeld.

Thomas and the motorcycle collided with the right passenger side of the 2009 Chevy Aveo that was north bound on Zaragoza, making a left turn onto Saul Kleinfeld.

The impact separated Thomas from his motorcycle, spun the Aveo 180 degrees in the intersection, and the motorcycle traveled another 60 feet, colliding with a 2010 Ford F-150 that was stopped at the traffic light in northbound lanes on Zaragoza. Thomas died at the scene.

A 24-year old female passenger in the Aveo complained of pain and a 47-year old female passenger in the Ford had no reported injuries. There were no other reported injuries.

This is the sixthth traffic fatality of 2011 compared to 3 at this same time in 2010 and the 1st motorcycle fatality of 2011.
