Boys And Girls Club Responds To Ex-Supervisor’s Sentencing For Child Porn Possession
The man sentenced to 10 years in prison for having child pornography was accused of touching a boy inappropriately at the Boys and Girls Club.
The ABC-7 I-Team found Carlos Vega Vasquez was the director of the Boys and Girls Club at the Kennedy apartments. He was arrested in 2007 on charges of indecency with a child. The alleged incident happened in 2005. The boy was 9 years old. The case was dismissed.
The local Boys And Girls Club sent this statement:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Vasquez’s conduct but are relieved to hear justice will be served. Mr. Vasquez has not been affiliated with our organization for more than four years having worked from November 2004 through July of 2006. The Boys and Girls Club’s top concern is the health and safety of its youth members and for this reason has a zero tolerance policy and follows strict hiring protocols, to include background checks and additional screening.
The Boys & Girls Club has served the youth of El Paso for 82 years. The Clubs provide programs for more than 1200 boys and girls in the areas of character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation.”
Vasquez was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for possession of child pornography.
On March 11, 2009, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents executed a search warrant at a location where Vasquez resided and seized his laptop and desktop computers. A subsequent forensic analysis of the hard drives from the computers revealed the presence of approximately 540 images and 95 videos depicting child pornography. On October 29, 2010, Vasquez pleaded guilty to the charge.
This Project Safe Childhood case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Antonio Franco, Jr., prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
