Sister Of Woman Charged With Son’s Death Says She Had Contacted Police
The sister of the East El Paso woman accused of killing her 4-year-old son told ABC-7 she was unhappy with the way police handled the situation.
Veronica Lopez Davila is the 23-year-old sister of 26-year-old Vikki Macias, who has been charged with capital murder in the death of her son Dallas Ryan Macias.
According to the criminal complaint affidavit, the 4-year-old died on March 13th of a broken neck and swelling of the brain.
The crime allegedly occurred at an East Side home in the 3400 block of Waterside, which Macias’ family said is owned by the brother of her boyfriend.
Davila told ABC-7 they asked police to check on the welfare of her sister and nephew back in early February after she had not heard from her for a month.
She claims police did go to the home on Waterside for that welfare check, but someone there told them that they had kicked Macias and her son out and didn’t know where they were.
Davila said police did not ask to look inside and no reports were filed with Child Protective Services. She now questions why police did not follow up.
“I was told someone checked but there was no evidence,” Davila said. “Then I hear that whoever went to the door they took their answer as they don’t live here and that was it. They didn’t even bother to check inside.”
Child Protective Services told ABC-7 the agency had no history with Vikki Macias and were never told of the situation.
ABC-7 asked the El Paso Police Department for a response to Davila’s claims and spokesman Mike Baranyay sent the following statement:
“The focus must remain on the successful prosecution of this case. For that reason, the El Paso Police Department believes it would be irresponsible to speak on any other matter pertaining to this child.”
