ABC-7 Viewer Concerned About Speed Limit Increase

Horizon City’s population is booming. With that comes traffic and congestion. But one solution is not sitting well with an ABC-7 viewer.

Rick brought our attention to the possibility that city officials will increase the speed limit on Darrington Rd. In his email, he said, “Multiple car crashes (that) have occurred and the most recent tragic accident (where) a mother, daughter, and unborn child were run over. Can’t understand the logic?”

Robert Coleman, director of Community and Development Services in Horizon City, told ABC-7 the city will increase the speed limit from 35 mph to 40 mph on Darrington south of the intersection with Horizon Blvd. North of that intersection will remain 35 mph.

“Safe, prudent speeds are always the mandatory and dictating term for establishing any sort of traffic flow and speed limits in that community,” Coleman said.

One county resident who lives close to Horizon he would welcome a change in speed limit on Darrington.

“If you come here on Canazo, that’s 45 mph. Which is the exact same street as this,” said Rudy Garcia. “There are houses, there are schools. And it’s 45.”

Horizon City officials say they’re currently changing all the speed limit signs on Darrington so they are updated to state standards.
