Man Injured In Overnight Wreck In Socorro

Investigators with the Socorro Police Department are looking into the latest wreck that sent one man to the hospital with very serious injuries.

It happened at 2:51 a.m. Friday on North Loop Dr. near Worsham Rd. in Socorro.

City spokesman Dave Garcia told ABC-7 a man, 24, was driving east on North Loop when he somehow lost control and drove onto the muddy shoulder. The car hit a concrete canal, launching across a wide driveway and landing in a wood and shrub fence.

Garcia, who described the crash as “very violent,” said the man was partially ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics were performing CPR on the man as they were taking him to Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso.

While one investigator was on the scene in the hours after the wreck, the police department was expected to send more crime scene technicians to assist once the sun came up.

The primary investigation is showing the wet roads and high rate of speed are to blame for the wreck, said Garcia.
