Water Slide Construction Causes Controversy

Residents in West El Paso want to know who’s building water slides on Redd Road.

“To be honest, I don’t even know what that is,” said Eduardo Rosillo. “But I’m really curious about what they’re doing over there.”

Rosillo’s home looks over a sizable construction project underway at 1452 Redd Road that includes very noticeable pink and purple water slides.

While Rosillio said he’s not sure what’s being built or who’s building it, he admitted, “It seems fun.”

Nearby property owner Maria Perez said since the slides have gone up her property value has gone down.

“The house went down 8 percent since the last appraisal I received in March,” said Perez.

A hefty site development plan of more than 26 pages lists the purpose of the 3.3 Acre property as, “a private recreation facility.”

It’s a palatial plan that includes a playing field, indoor racket ball courts, 2 tennis courts, a basket ball court, a near 11,000 square foot clubhouse, and the water slides.

The Director of Engineering and Construction for the City of El Paso, Victor Morrison-Vega, said the luxurious leisure facility is owned by local family for their own, personal, use.

Morrison-Vega said he could not disclose disclose the name of the family, but the development plan lists the owner as EZAR Properties L.P..

According to Morrison-Vega the owners have obtained the appropriate commercial zoning requirements to build in the area.
