Fort Bliss soldier charged in traffic fatality
A 27-year-old Fort Bliss soldier has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter in the overnight death of a man in a traffic collision.
According to El Paso Police, at about 12:34 a.m. Monday 34-year old Justin Marks drove a 2002 Buick Park Avenue with 33-year old Jaime Sambrano as his front right seat passenger in the 12400 block of Montana.
Marks had just pulled out of a private parking lot onto westbound Montana. At the same time Jeffery Henigan drove a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro westbound on Montana.
Police said Henigan’s Camaro struck the Buick from behind at a high rate of speed. Both occupants of the Buick, Marks and Sambrano, were transported to area hospitals where Sambrano died from his injuries. Marks suffered only minor injuries. STI investigators developed probable cause that Henigan was intoxicated at the time of the collision, and arrested him on one count of Intoxicated Manslaughter.
During a subsequent inventory of Henigan’s vehicle a handgun was located and investigators have added an additional charge of Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. Henigan was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a total bond of $51,500.00. Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors on Henigan’s part and no seatbelt on Sambrano’s part. The investigation continues.
