Boxing champion “No Doubt” Trout returns home; calls out “El Canelo” for future fight

After his dominating victory over boxing legend Miguel Cotto Saturday night, Las Cruces boxer Austin “No Doubt” Trout is back home.

About sixty people stayed up late to welcome the champion at the El Paso International Airport. Trout took the time to sign autographs and take photos with everyone.

But it was a very different scene on Saturday night when Trout was in enemy territory. “All you hear is faint boos and my heartbeat,” Trout told ABC-7. “It was like it kept going in my head this is the time, it’s my time, it’s my time, and I had that look that I was feeling like ready to go into the lions den, but I knew i could beat the lion.” Trout tells us he knew the Cotto fans would be hard to win over, and he was surprised with the applause he got after the win.

Recalling the fight, Trout told us, “First bell rings you hear the fans just going nuts you almost couldn’t hear the bell ring. It was almost deafening, When Cotto walked out the crowd just went wild. It sounded like they set the whole place on fire, everyone was just burning. Some the mid rounds though, they got real quiet.”

That silence came once the Las Cruces boxer began to take control of the fight.

In a post-fight interview, Trout called out Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez. Trout wants to fight Canelo and says he would be open to fighting him in El Paso. Last year, Trout defeated Canelo’s older brother to win the WBA Junior Middleweight Championship. Trout joked that he could have gone another five to ten rounds after his fight with Cotto and could tell Canelo he was ready to go right there.
