2013 story: Update: El Paso Police charge man with attempted murder in stabbing
El Paso Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old woman early Wednesday morning in the 5300 block of Suncrest.
The woman was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of stab wounds to the head chest.
The officer’s investigation revealed that Rafael Gomez, the ex-common-law husband of the woman, had entered her apartment and engaged her in an argument that resulted in Gomez allegedly pulling the woman’s hair and stabbing her numerous times.
The woman attempted to call 911 but Gomez allegedly knocked the phone away from her, according to police.
The woman was able to scream for help causing Gomez to flee the apartment. Officers located Gomez Wednesday morning a short distance away. Gomez was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Interfere with Emergency Communication, and outstanding warrants for Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. He was booked on bonds totaling $708,000.
