NMSU issues safety advisory for possible armed subject near campus

Safety advisory for a possible armed subject near the NMSU campus

Based on information received from another law enforcement agency, New Mexico State University Police are looking for Jonathan Havstad, a 34-year-old white male, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 215 pounds with blue eyes. He may be in a 2011 two-door red Scion with New Mexico license plate LRJ144. He is upset with NMSU and the NMSU police. He may be attempting to obtain a gun and has made statements that he was going to shoot people.

If the subject is seen on campus, do not approach and call 911 immediately.

Out of a concern for public safety, the university is taking the most diligent approach to locating this individual. The university has distributed an advisory and all NMSU police officers, as well as other officers with other local law enforcement agencies are looking for him and his vehicle.
