Neighbor reacts to alleged injury to child case
A 23-month-old girl is still in the hospital tonight with serious injuries El Paso police say were caused by her mother’s boyfriend.
The man accused, 27-year-old Jason Walters, is being held at the El Paso County Detention Center with a bond set at $75,000, according to a news release.
Police have released little information at this time, and neighbors seem to not know much about the three people involved either.
“It’s depressing … they’re just kids. You’re not gonna compare the strength of an adult against a child, so I don’t think that’s right at all,” Jose Mendoza said in response to the alleged injuries.
Mendoza’s aunt lives across the street from where El Paso police arrested Walters for allegedly injuring his girlfriend’s toddler-aged daughter.
The girl’s mother, Lorena Reveles, didn’t want to answer questions the day following the arrest. El Paso Police Crimes Against Children’s investigators said the nearly 2-year-old child suffered numerous injuries before being transported to University Medical Center, including a fractured skull, collapsed lung and bite marks.
Few neighbors have seen the trio around, but don’t know much about them. Mendoza said he’ll be keeping a more watchful eye.
“We live around the corner and my kids are always playing over there. I mean, I don’t know. There’s a lot of kids around this neighborhood especially because of the school,” Mendoza said.
ABC-7 will continue to stay on top of this story and mention any developments.
