Community provides input on Eastside Regional Park
Planning is underway for the Eastside Regional Park that will be the largest park in El Paso.
The park will be built near Montana Avenue and Rich Beem Boulevard near the new Cinemark Theatre.
A large crowd voiced their opinions d uring a community input meeting Wednesday night. Most people ABC-7 spoke to said they are hope to see something for everyone in the new 92-acre park.
Eastside Regional Park was part of the Quality of Life bond that voters approved in 2012. It’s been budgeted at $48 million and will include a 50-meter pool, a recreational pool and community center.
City Representative Michiel Noe told constituents the master plan needs to be approved by the city council before construction can begin. As of now, it appears work will be broken down into three phases.
“Since I am a taxpayer and I am going to pay, I want to be involved in it,” one woman said at the meeting.
People who attended got to vote via text for their preferred plans and see the results in real time. For those who preferred not to use a phone, there were paper ballots as well.
