First Alert remains in effect for slight rain and freezing rain chance

The ABC-7 StormTRACK Weather Team issued a first alert for windy conditions Wednesday, and slight freezing rain chances Wednesday night/Thursday morning and Thursday night/Friday morning.

A strong cold front moved into the region Wednesday dropping temperatures about 10 to 15 degrees and bringing in gusty winds around the region. Winds peaked between 50 and 60 mph in northwest El Paso Wednesday afternoon.

Some scattered drizzle and cold rain fell over the Borderland Thursday morning, and the chance sits at 20 percent through the morning for light rain and some icy roadways as a result.

Thursday afternoon there is a 10 percent chance of additional rain.

The better chance returns overnight into Friday morning, at 20 percent. Again, freezing rain has a slight chance of appearing over the region.

Thursday afternoon the forecast high temperature is 45 degrees with an overnight low of 30. In Las Cruces, the high will hit 45 with a low at 29 degrees.
