Video catches thief steals car rack from a car dealership

side car dealership got a nasty surprise earlier this week. abc-7’s julio-cesar chavez is live from the newsroom with more: melendez auto sales on joe battle and vista del sol had a rooftop rack stolen from one of their off roading vehicles friday. the rack, they say, could be sold for up to 900 dollars on the street. the team says it could have been worse. “thank god it was a rack and no three cars.” in this video shared with abc-7 by the melendez team, we can see the alleged thief walking into the lot around one in the morning. he uses power and hand tools to loosen the rack’s screws. nearly half an hour later, he gets on top of the car, finishes with the screws, and wrenches off the rack. an investigation is ongoing. “we already reported, hande out the video to el paso police department, fingerprints and everything. so we have, we’re getting an idea on the guy.” the melendez team tell us as far as they know, other dealerships haven’t had rooftop racks stolen. if you have any information on the theft or recognize the man in the video, please call police. the dealership is offering a reward. just a reminder–the miss el paso pageant
