Save-A-Life Telethon helps local Humane Society
A different scene at ABC 7 Saturday as the station hosted the 22nd Save-A-Life Telethon.
Puppies were barking, phones were ringing and volunteers working vigorously to keep up with the abundant donors calling.
The Save-A-Live Telethon is the the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Humane Society of El Paso.
Betty Hoover, Executive Director of the Humane Society of El Paso. said their goal is to raise $130,000 from this event alone.
“We are totally dependent on donations. We do not receive any money from the federal, state, county or city government,” Hoover added.
All of the operating budget for the Humane Society comes from fundraisers. Hoover says it costs about $20 to $25 a day for each animal at the shelter and there are about 165 to 200 animals there on a given day.
A telethon volunteer says, “it is important to help the community. This telethon is a great way to help the animals and the community.”
