Eastwood, El Pasoan’s remember local legend Bobby Lesley

Dozens of El Pasoan’s gathered Monday evening to remember local coaching legend Bobby Lesley. Friends and former teammates of Lesley held a candlelight vigil for the coaching icon.

Lesley is best know for coaching the Eastwood Troopers basketball team to a Texas State Title back in 1976. The people in attendance only had wonderful things to say about Lesley not only as a coach, but as a man.

“I just love him, he treated us all like family members called us out if we needed to be called out and talked to us,” Tim Crenshaw, a former player said. “But again he wasn’t a screamer he would just try to tell us the way we should be acting.”

Endi Vargas, the Trooper’s Girls Basketball Coach, said Lesley always offered a helping hand to her when she was first new to the program.

“He just made me a tougher person, ready to handle whatever is thrown at me and I will forever be grateful for that,” Vargas said.

Lesley passed away Friday Aug. 7th. He was 74 years old.
