back to abc-seven and i’m estela cas. film buffs have their hands full at the plaza classic film fest. that’s where hundreds of classic movies are on the big screen this month. you can even catch some new flicks … .. like a documentary shedding light on a story happening right here in the borderland: “one of the worst tragedies i to have a loved one disappear because it leaves you in limbo.” the documentary is called ‘kingdom of shadows’ by filmmaker bernardo ruiz and it’s giving viewers a fresh perspective on the war on drugs. the film follows the drug war across both borders from three very different perspectives. one is the woman you just saw, sister consuelo morales a mexican nun and advocate for the families torn apart by the violence. “althought we may not know th truth yet, we are on the path to finding it.” another is don henry ford jr… an anglo texan ex-drug smuggler struggling to keep his farm — “i decided to try to go t mexico and buy some marijuana… it was terribly amateurish but i got away with it.” and finally, osca hagelsieb… a homeland security special agent and native el pasoan who risks his life going undercover putting drug smugglers in jail. “i would actually talk to the individual we just arrested and i would try to mimic how he would talk.”ieb is no longer unde cover. he says the documentary sheds light on the undercover officers whose work goes largely unnoticed. “most of my career, what i did, was working undercover and its really – you work behind the shadows.” the split narrative ensure that his is not the only story viewers will hear. “it highlights el paso in the sense that it kinda demonstrates the struggles that a lot of people on the border go through.” kingdom of shadows plays tonight at 7:30 at the philanthropy theater at the plaza. if you’ve been to fort bliss this week and you are not active military, then you definitely noticed the new security
