County offers public use of incinerator to destroy documents

EL PASO — If you’ve been looking for a safe way to destroy personal documents, the Sheriff’s Office has a solution: burn them.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office incinerator, which is normally used to burn narcotics, will be open to residents interested in destroying documents. Officials say that the initiative can help prevent possible identity theft.

The incinerator will be available between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, located at 12501 Montana Ave., behind the Montana Patrol Station and the Region VII Training Academy. There is no cost to the public, but there is a limit of only one 30 gallon trash bag allowed per household. Only personal documents will be accepted.
