Former Eastwood teacher sentenced to 4 years in prison for having sex with students

The former Eastwood High teacher found guilty of sexual assault and having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Christopher Miranda will also have to serve 10 years probation.

One of Miranda’s accusers, now 20 years old, took the stand during the trial. The woman told jurors what happened the night of the assault.

She said Miranda invited her to hang out via a text message and he picked her up at her parents home.

She said she sneaked out through the back door. Miranda took her to his parents house and they went straight up to his upstairs bedroom, the woman said.

She said he started to kiss her and would not stop when she told him to.

“I told him that’s not why I’m here. He proceeded. He didn’t stop. He continued. He lifted me and put me in the middle of the bed.”

A jury found Miranda guilty of two counts of improper relationship between a student and educator, one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of sexual performance by a child.

He face two to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 for each count.

The jury found him not guilty of one count of improper relationship between a student and educator, one count of sexual assault of a child and two counts of sexual performance by a child.

Miranda worked at Eastwood High School from June 2007 to February 2013 and was an assistant gymnastics coach.

He also started as a full-time substitute teacher in Aug. 2011 before he became a teacher of career and technology in Jan. 2012.

During the trial, prosecutors played a taped recording between Miranda and an Ysleta ISD official. In the recording, Miranda is heard admitting to having a sexual relationship with three students.
