Pedestrian hit by tractor trailer on I-10 Tuesday was suicide attempt, police say
Dec. 23 Update: El Paso Police say Tuesday’s pedestrian collision on I-10 at McRae was an attempted suicide attempt.
At about 1:46 p.m., a 58-year-old man intentionally ran into oncoming traffic in the I-10 westbound lanes.
He was struck by a tractor trailer and transported to Del Sol Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
He has been committed under an emergency detention order.
5:08 p.m. Dec. 22 Update: All lanes now open on I-10 West at McRae after pedestrian collision. Closure was expected to be about five hours but it was reopened earlier.
Original Story: A collision involving a pedestrian and a truck at I-10 West at McRae has led to the closure of all main lanes.
The collision happened at around 2 p.m. and traffic was soon detoured to McRae Exit 28A but traffic has been backing going in both directions.
At around 2:30 p.m., TxDOT said in an email that the clearing time wass expected to be five hours.
