County invests in major construction projects to increase mobility in Far East

El Paso County broke ground on eight major construction projects to increase mobility in Far East El Paso.

Commissioner Perez tells Abc-7, the Far East has grown exponentially. He says there are new subdivisions, homes and businesses popping up, but the problem is, there aren’t enough major roads to accommodate residents. According to the U.S Census Bureau, the population for the areas outside the city limits grew from 113,118 in 2000 to 151,126 in 2010, nearly double the rate of growth inside the city limits.

The county broke ground on eight projects that will begin construction this year. They include:

Mission Ridge Boulevard-$5.9M (Pellicano Drive to Eastlake Blvd)
Rojas Drive-$6.7M (Loop 375 to Eastlake Blvd)
Eastlake Boulevard Phase I & II-$51.3M (I-10 to Horizon Blvd)
Old Hueco Tanks Road-$13.5M (I-10 to North Loop Drive)
Darrington Road-$5.7M (Pellicano Drive to Eastlake Blvd)
Vista del Sol Drive-$3M (Loop 375 to Cherrington Road)
Aguilera International Highway Phase II-$20.4M (Alameda Avenue [SH 20] to I-10)
Greg Road-$5.7 (Vista del Este to Mike Price)

“These are major transportation projects that are addressing the growing needs of the community,” Commissioner Perez said.
