EPFD respond to condition 2 fire in Lower Valley

At approximately 9:41 a.m. on Monday Jan. 25, the El Paso Fire Department was dispatched to a condition 2 fire at the 7600 block of Acapulco Ave. when a firefighter traveling to a nearby station saw smoke and called 9-1-1.

Upon arriving on the scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of a house. Firefighters began to simultaneously fight the fire and search for employees. The two people living in the house had self-evacuated. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 10:12 a.m. and contain it to the 30% of the house. Damage is estimated at $40,000. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. A total of 11 units and 28 personnel from the El Paso Fire Department responded to this incident. El Paso Police, El Paso Electric, Texas Gas and El Paso Planning and Inspections and ATF assisted in the incident. The house had working smoke alarms. The El Paso Fire Department would like to remind the public about their FREE Smoke Alarm Program. In less than 30 seconds, a small flame can get completely out of control and begin filling a home with thick, black, poisonous smoke. In just a few minutes, a home can become completely engulfed with flames. With the advance notice of a working smoke alarm, residents can escape with their lives. Residents who do not have a smoke alarm can request a FREE smoke alarm by calling 485-5699 or by visiting www.elpasotexas.gov/fire-department/services.
