Police: Smoke shop burglary suspect turned out to be shop customer

Police arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly burglarizing a local smoke shop.

Andrew Jonathon Martinez was charged with commercial burglary, criminal damage of property and larceny.

Detectives say the DCP’s Smoke Shop, at 1025 S. Solano Dr. was closed for the day when the burglary alarm was activated around 9:00 p.m.

A store rep. and three friends arrived to find Martinez inside the smoke shop. Martinez ran away and was chased down by one of the men. Police were dispatched and took Martinez into custody.

Employees say Martinez was a regular and had been to the store earlier that day. Detectives learned he stole cigarettes, several lighters, and incense sticks.

Martinez was booked in the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
