EP Chihuahuas groundskeeper Nathan Jones dies after being pinned by a truck
Nathan William Jones, the head groundskeeper for the El Paso Chihuahuas, died as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic collision November 29th, police said.
Jones, 24, was involved in a collision at I-10 West and Schuster at about 6:46 p.m.
Jones and the driver of the other vehicle involved stopped on the on ramp and were exchanging information. Jones was standing behind his vehicle and was struck by a truck pinning him against his car, police said.
EMS crews transported Jones to University Medical Center with serious injuries. He died Tuesday December 5th.
“Nate was a special person and a fantastic friend to everyone in our organization,” said MountainStar Sports President Alan Ledford, “He brought a unique passion to his work and was responsible for creating some wonderful memories for Chihuahuas fans who marvel at the Southwest University Park playing field. We are deeply saddened and will miss Nate immensely.”
“It has been an extremely emotional week and we share in the sadness and pain the Jones’ family is enduring right now,” said El Paso Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor. “We are thankful for the overwhelming outpour of support both locally and from friends all over our baseball community.”
Police said this is the 61st traffic fatality of 2016 compared to 48 this time last year. The wreck remains under investigation.
Jones’ family has set up a Go Fund Me account to help raise money for expenses.
